A $1 million NSW Government investment to improve pedestrian safety in the South Grafton CBD has been welcomed as a major win for the local community.

State Nationals MP for Clarence Richie Williamson joined members of the South Grafton Progress Association in the CBD today to celebrate the funding announcement and acknowledge the Association's long-standing advocacy for improvements to the precinct.

"This is fantastic news for South Grafton and a great outcome for the local community," Mr Williamson said.

"The South Grafton Progress Association has been advocating for improvements to the CBD for some time, and it's pleasing to see that persistence rewarded with this significant investment.

"I want to congratulate the Association for never giving up on its vision for a safer, more welcoming and vibrant South Grafton town centre, and Clarence Valley Council for securing this important funding."

The funding, secured through the NSW Government's Towards Zero Safer Roads Program – High Pedestrian Activity Area Sub-program, will support the creation of a High Pedestrian Activity Area, including a proposed 30 km/h zone, new pedestrian crossings, a raised intersection, gateway treatments and landscaping, subject to community consultation and detailed design.

Mr Williamson said the improvements would make it safer and easier for residents and visitors to walk through the CBD while supporting local businesses.

"These upgrades will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility while creating a more attractive town centre that encourages people to spend time in South Grafton and support local businesses," he said.

"I know this project has been a priority for the community for a long time, and I look forward to seeing it progress through the consultation and design phases before construction gets underway."

Community consultation and detailed design will be undertaken during 2026-27, with construction anticipated in 2027-28.
