State Member for Clarence, Richie Williamson, has welcomed a $14.2 million investment by the NSW Government to refurbish disused accommodation at the former Grafton Gaol site, paving the way for 36 new one-bedroom studio apartments for healthcare workers.
“This investment is a crucial step in preparing for the $263.8 million redevelopment of Grafton Base Hospital and will provide much-needed housing options for nurses and other clinicians,” Mr Williamson said.
“The accommodation upgrade will help attract additional healthcare professionals to the region, improving patient care and strengthening the local health system.
“This is a significant and welcome investment that will ensure we can bring skilled clinicians to our region, ultimately enhancing health services for our community,” Mr Williamson said.
The $14.2 million funding forms part of a broader $200.1 million program supporting more than 20 projects across rural, regional, and remote NSW. It is in addition to the $263.8 million allocated for the hospital’s redevelopment.
Mr Williamson said he has been working closely with NSW Health Minister Ryan Park to deliver the much-anticipated redevelopment and is pleased to see progress on such a vital project.
“This is a long-awaited initiative, and I’m delighted to see this investment in our region. It’s a great outcome for our local health workers and, most importantly, for the patients who rely on Grafton Base Hospital,” he said.
