Clarence Nationals MP Richie Williamson has welcomed significant investment for two important local projects under Round Three of the Australian Government’s Disaster Ready Fund.
The Iluka community will benefit from more than $3 million in matched funding from Clarence Valley Council to complete the design and construction of 2.1 kilometres of flood-prone sections of Iluka Road—a critical emergency connection route for the town. This upgrade will help ensure residents, emergency services and visitors have safer, more reliable access during severe weather events.
Mr Williamson said the announcement is a major win for the local community.
“Iluka Road is the town’s lifeline during emergencies. This funding means we can get on with delivering a safer, more resilient route that keeps people connected when it matters most.”
In Baryulgil, $2 million has been awarded for the Baryulgil Evacuation Centre and Community Resilience Project, providing vital facilities for emergency evacuation and improving preparedness for future natural disasters.
“This investment will give the Baryulgil community a safe, purpose-built place to gather, shelter and respond in times of crisis. It’s an important step in strengthening local resilience,” Mr Williamson said.
Mr Williamson thanked all levels of government and project partners for their collaboration, acknowledging the ongoing efforts to improve disaster readiness across the Clarence.
“Our communities have endured repeated natural disasters. These projects are practical, sensible investments that will help protect lives, livelihoods and the long-term wellbeing of our region.”
