The opening of Tesla’s newest Supercharger station at New Italy – a 12-bay site featuring Australia’s largest Tesla solar canopy is a major boost for electric vehicle (EV) travel through the Northern Rivers Nationals according to Nationals MP for Clarence, Richie Williamson, who visited the site this week.
The New Italy charging station, co-funded by the NSW Government, forms part of the growing EV fast-charging network along the Sydney-to-Brisbane corridor. Importantly, the site is open to all EVs, not just Teslas, ensuring broader benefits for the travelling public.
“This is great news for EV drivers in northern NSW,” Mr Williamson said.
“The new facility in the Richmond Valley at New Italy complements the Harwood Supercharger station in the Clarence Valley and provides greater convenience for both locals and visitors travelling through the region.”
The New Italy station includes a dedicated charging bay for EVs towing boats, caravans or trailers, and is Tesla’s second – and largest – solar-canopy site in the country, featuring an 80kW rooftop array.
“I’m pleased to see the NSW Government supporting the rollout of EV infrastructure that’s not only high-capacity and accessible but also environmentally conscious,” Mr Williamson said.
“The Clarence and Richmond valleys are already popular stopover points for travellers, and with new infrastructure like this, we’re becoming even more EV-friendly.”
