WILLIAMSON WELCOMES COURT HALT ON YURAYGIR HORSE CULL

A decision by the NSW Land and Environment Court this morning to halt the proposed aerial cull of wild horses in Yuraygir National Park has been welcomed by State Nationals MP for Clarence Richie Williamson.

Mr Williamson said the NSW Government had agreed to halt all aerial and ground shooting, as well as trapping, until the matters before the Court had been considered.

“I recently wrote to NSW Minister for the Environment Penny Sharpe requesting that NSW National Parks halt the planned aerial cull,” Mr Williamson said.

“I welcome the Government’s decision to pause these measures while the Court considers the matters before it.

“I also want the Government to consider all possible options for removing wild horses from Yuraygir National Park, including methods that do not involve shooting.

“The community deserves a comprehensive and considered approach to managing the wild horse population, and all practical alternatives should be properly assessed.”
