The beginning of the new school year after Australia Day next week is normally an exciting time for local families, but the mood has been spoiled this year by NSW Labor's senseless decision to axe the $150 Back to School voucher as well as other measures to help children, according to Clarence Nationals MP Richie Williamson.
"At a time when cost of living pressures are peaking, NSW Labor is taking away the $150 voucher for uniforms and books from each and every one of the thousands of schoolkids in the Richmond and Clarence Valleys," Mr Williamson explained.
"The Labor Minister for Education called the $150 Back to School Vouchers ‘a cash splash’.
“If the Minister for education thinks investing in school children is a waste of money, then we have a real problem."
Mr Williamson insisted his criticism was not a political attack on the Government.
"I do not care about party politics, but I care deeply about the wellbeing of the young families I represent in the Richmond and Clarence Valleys," Mr Williamson said.
"These families are under financial attack by NSW Labor, which has slashed programs to help children start the school year, learn to swim, try creative hobbies and play sport.
"On top of that, uni students, apprentices and seniors in the Richmond and Clarence Valleys have lost their $250 a year fuel card, while Labor offers gold senior/pensioner Opal Cards giving unlimited travel on Sydney's massive public transport network for no more than $2.50 a day (source: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-for-a-gold-senior-pensioner-opal-card)
"These policy changes are brutal, cruel and completely unnecessary.
"I will be the first to congratulate Premier Minns if he chooses to do a series of backflips," Mr Williamson promised.
